The Hon Michael Kirby Contract Law Moot

The Hon Michael Kirby Contract Law Moot was held on 25 to 28 September 2017 at Victoria University. This is an intervarsity tournament which is held in conjunction with Victoria Law School each year.

Teams will consist of four team members. Applicants can be from any year of law however strong mooting experience will be essential for selection.

The Australia New Zealand IV Moot on Animal Law

The Australia New Zealand IV Moot on Animal Law is the only moot on animal law in Australia and New Zealand and is held in conjunction with The Animal Law Institute and Voiceless.

Participants will research the law in relation to a problem scenario and present legal arguments. The 2017 competition took place on 16 to 17 September at Monash University Law Chambers.

Teams will consist of two to three team members. Applicants can be from any year of law however strong mooting experience will be essential for selection.

UNSW Skills Intervarsity Competition

The UNSW Skills Intervarsity Competition involves Negotiations and Client Interviewing as independent competitions running simultaneously between five different universities. It is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop these practical and crucial skills in a friendly and competitive setting.

Negotiation consists of a legal dispute based on a set of facts known to both sides and a different set reserved solely for each team. The objective is to reach an agreement by using compromise, bargaining methods and excellent communication. Client interviewing is based on a mock meeting between a law firm and potential client.

The competition ran from 26 to 27 August 2017 at UNSW and Macquarie University sent one to two teams for Negotiations and one to two teams for Client Interviewing.

For successful applicants, problem questions for all rounds were released to teams on 18 August 2017.

UTS Law Student Society Intervarsity Legal Technology Law Moot

The Margaret Cuneen Witness Examination Competition is an annual inter varsity competition between UTS and Macquarie. Each university is represented by a top student advocate. 

 

UTS Law Student Society Intervarsity Legal Technology Law Moot

The UTS LSS Intervarsity Legal Technology Law Moot is the first external moot focused on technology law and the uncertainty of the contemporary technological landscape. Participants will be able to develop innovative and creative solutions to numerous challenges posed by technology and the law. Participants will research the law in relation to a problem scenario and form a compelling legal argument. One team of two to three students from Macquarie University can compete in this exciting new competition which was held on 7 October to 9 October 2017.

For successful applicants, below are key dates from 2017 which are currently indicative of the potential 2018 dates:

  • Competition rules & timetable released – Saturday 26 August, 2017
  • Problem question released – Saturday 2 September, 2017
  • Appellant submissions due – Monday 18 September, 2017 at 6pm
  • Appellant submissions sent to opposing team– Monday 18 September, 2017 by 9pm
  • Respondent submissions due– Monday 2 October, 2017 at 6pm
  • Respondent submissions sent to opposing team – Monday 2 October, 2017 by 9pm
  • General rounds – Saturday 7 – Sunday 8 October, 2017
  • Grand Final – Monday 9 October, 2017
